Year 8 French Residential 2013

In the early hours of Monday 22nd July 2013, 44 Year 8 students and 5 staff left the Park & Ride to spend 4 nights at Lion-Sur Mer on the Normandy coast.

During our stay, our schedule was packed with all different kinds of cultural, linguistic and historical activities. Our excursions included Mont St Michel, The Bayeux Tapestry, the Memorial de la Paix at Caen, a chocolate factory, the largest American War Cemetery at Coleville sur Mer, Arromanches (twinned with Instow), Pegasus Bridge and the D Day landing beaches. On the Tuesday we went to Courselles-sur-Mer and after being given some money were encouraged to purchase our lunch at the local market!

In the evenings, we did some language preparation for the following day and as weather was great we went to the beach (which is only 200 metres from the centre where we stayed) to play ball games, or just to enjoy a leisurely walk. On the final evening we had a disco.

On the way back to the ferry port on the final day, we visited the city of Caen and the shopping centre at Herouville to buy some last minute presents and souvenirs.

We arrived back at the Park & Ride early on the Saturday morning tired, but happy that we had had a good time and that our confidence to speak and understand French had improved a lot.
