Olympic Torch

Students from Park Community School joined the route for the Olympic Torch as it came through Barnstaple on Monday 21 May. They witnessed the procession and the Olympic Flame being carried through the town.

Students had a chance to look at an Olympic Torch closely when Simon Paddon brought his torch into school. Simon ran the route on Sat 19th May in Stenalees. He is also competing in the Coast to Coast Challenge, raising money for North Devon Hospice.

Year 7 Students also had the chance to run a relay carrying the torch. They learnt that there are 8000 holes in the torch design to represent the 8000 Torch Bearers. The torch is triangular in shape to represent that this is the third time the Olympics will have come to London. No other country has achieved this! Only the Torch Bearers can own a torch – not even the designers have one!
