Maths New York Trip 2016

We arrived at school at approximately 1am on Sunday 17th July. Most of us were all pretty tired by the time we got to Heathrow airport and we had to check in. We saw West-Ham players while walking through duty free!

By about 10am we boarded the plane. We had our own TVs built into the back of the seats so we sat down to watch some films and TV shows.

Sports Presentation Evening 2016

We held our 7th Annual Sports Presentation Evening on Thursday 7th July.  

All students in Years 7-10 who have represented the school at a sport attended the evening, including family members.

This year our guest speaker was ex student and professional boxer Rob Squires.

For each sports team a person was awarded Player Of The Year, Players Player Of The Year or Most Improved Player Of The Year.

North Devon U14s Rounders Tournament Winners!

The Year 9 rounders team played incredibly well, beating West Buckland in the semi-final 5-2 and beating South Molton in the final 6-4. Well done girls!

After competing in the North Devon Schools Athletics Championships, these athletes were picked to represent Devon Schools on the 11th June at Exeter Arena. All children were up against some very talented athletes but achieved some brilliant results.

Year 11 45 mile team Ten Tors 2016

After a hot, sunny and very windy weekend the Park Community School 35 mile team completed route CK at 14:17, the 45 mile team route RI were pulled out by the organisers at Postbridge on Sunday.

A great deal of training and team effort by all students. 

A special thank you to the Taw Explorer Scouts for their assistance at base camp on the Saturday.

PE Gifted and Talented Day

On the 28th of April, 25 gifted and talented students from year 7-9 were selected to attend a range of activities in Exeter. Some of the activities included a walk around the Exeter Chiefs rugby ground, Sports Science testing in the University and ending the day with a raft team building challenge against Pilton School, where Park came out on top! It was a very enjoyable day for all.

Year 7 Rugby Team Park Double ND Champions In Year 7 And 9

On Wednesday 13th April, we attended the North Devon Rugby Finals at the Barnstaple Rugby club and played in 3 of the 4 finals.

The year 7s pictured, continued to impress, winning their final vs Braunton School with a score of  7 trys to 1. The man of the match was Sam Palmer.

The year 9s won with a score of 25-5, with an almost faultless performance against Braunton.  Harvey Causer received the man of the match performance for his tactical application throughout the game....

World Book Day 2016

All staff at the school gave students a big surprise on World Book Day this year!

Staff dressed up as famous book characters to engage students with discussions on books and reading. The school was taken over by such famous literary figures as The Cat in the Hat, The BFG, and Where’s Wally. Sights such as Assistant Head, Mr Tamlyn, dressed as The BFG and Science Teacher, Mr Cross, dressed as a particularly glittery Tinkerbell provided a fabulous atmosphere at the school.

Britain’s Got Talent star teaches juggling
On Thursday the 11th of Feb Merlin Cadogan, as seen at the Milky Way and on Britain’s Got Talent, visited Park School to lead a Tutorial Session for our Year 7 pupils.  After showing off some of his amazing skills in our Assembly, he spent a lesson with each of our Year 7 Tutor groups. During these sessions he broke 3 ball juggling down into very simple steps, with every pupil working cooperatively with each other and individually. South West Schools X Country

Seventeen Park students qualified to represent North Devon in the County schools cross country on Saturday 16th January. Excellent effort by all those who took part in tough wintry conditions. Seven of the runners have now qualified to run for Devon in the South West schools. Massive well done to Callum Choules, Erin Silvester, Hamish James, Alex Walker, lotte Taylor, Millie Ayres & Dylan Dayman.

Governors' Tea Nov 2015

A Governors’ tea is held once a term for those students who have received 500, 750, 1000 and 1500 Merits. The certificates and badges are awarded to each student by a member of the governing body and the Head of House.

Year 11 Mindfullness Session

On Thursday 3rd December a mindfulness session was held for all year 11 students during their PSHEE lesson.

Dan Peppiatt from North Devon Yoga Centre was invited to speak to our year 11 students specificially to help them deal with any stresses they may encounter with their upcoming GCSE exams. With 15 years experience as a school teacher, working in both secondary and primary education, he is familiar with the stresses and anxieties that face todays youngsters.

Year 10 North Devon Football Champions

Year 10 are the North Devon Football Champions for the 2nd year running. The amazing final against Ilfracombe was played at Bideford College on Thursday 26th November with a final score of 3-1.

Congratulations to the boys for retaining the cup and reaching the final every year since Year 7, an amazing achievement! We also thank the team managers Mr Bishop and Mr Kingdom-Kruszewski.

Mock Exams Results Day

On Thursday 25th November our Year 11 students collected their mock examination results. As parents will know, over the past two weeks students have been taking mock examinations in a range of subjects.

During PSHEE, excited students entered the school hall to collect their results. This was exactly the same process as students will undertake in August to collect their actual GCSE examination results.

Year 10 Bude Residential 2015

Over half of Year 10 spent a very successful first week of KS4 at the nationally acclaimed Adventure International site in Bude. The purpose of the week is to raise pupils confidence by subjecting them to a series of challenges which through cooperation and team work they are able to overcome. Shakespeare Schools Festival - To be or not to be...
On Wednesday 18th November 2015 the G.C.S.E Drama group took part in the nationally run Shakespeare Schools festival. Performing an edited version of Hamlet on stage at the Queen’s Theatre was both a daunting and exhilarating experience for the cast.

Park’s hat trick!!

It was another massive win for Park School in the annual Stephen Shield cross country competition at Torrington this term.

The event is entered by all schools in North Devon and again the students from Park were outstanding. The weather did not let us down – wind and rain as always! These wet conditions made it extremely muddy and difficult under foot, but the runners from all age groups persisted and made it a hat trick of wins.

Uganda Experience 2015

In October six students from Park School went to Uganda to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity. In conjunction with the North Devon charity Amigos, we travelled to Kira Farm. This is a training centre to provide vocational education for young people that have missed out on schooling for a variety of reasons. Kira Farm has approximately 40 young Ugandan trainees a year, all of whom have grown up in severe hardship. Many of the trainees were previously child soldiers for the Lord’s...

Jeans For Genes Day

On Friday 18th September students and staff supported Jeans For Genes Day by contributing £1 and wearing non-uniform.  The total raised at school is currently £1,300, with more to follow.  A great result for a great cause!

Transition Summer School 2015

This year, our Summer School ran from Monday 27th July to Friday 31st July 2015.  Thirty Year 6 students were offered places and the lucky ones (we were oversubscribed) had their names drawn out of a hat!
