Phoebe Oreshko in Year 9 has just been offered another 12 months contract with Bristol Academy U15's Football team.

MacMillan Charity Donation

On May 16th 2014, Mr Hare from Macmillan Cancer Support, visited Park School to receive a cheque for £206 from Ms Vidlers Year 7 Tutor Group.  This was raised as part of the Fortescue Charity challenge.

A Memorable Ski Trip

Yet again the Ski Trip to Passo Tonale was as successful as ever.  Excellent snow conditions, fantastic weather and the students all made huge progression with their skiing & snowboarding ability.

Victory For Yr 9 Rugby Team

Our Year 9 students won the North Devon Rugby Championships yesterday beating Chulmleigh 45-12 in the Final.

It was a very mature and skilful performance from all involved, and they maintain there unbeaten run within North Devon to three seasons.

CSI - Inspire To Aspire Event

So ‘Who killed Stan?’ was the scenario put to the audience at the latest Inspire to Aspire event which was based on a CSI theme. After an introduction to explain what happens when a crime is committed and a person is stabbed, the audience were taken through the various stages that a forensic scientist would go through to try to discover who was responsible for the crime, as well as looking at what could be done to save the persons’ life if this situation arose.

Spanish Tapas Evening

A group of Year 10 students had the opportunity to try some delicious tapas dishes at Lilicos Tapas Restaurant in Barnstaple. The students were an asset to Park School and thoroughly enjoyed their night. They were able to try the following typical Spanish dishes:  Spanish mixed paella, seafood paella, Spanish meatballs, olives and pitta bread, Spanish tortilla, patatas bravas, white beans with hummous and mock sangria. Another successful 'Inspire to Aspire' event was held on 'Careers in the 21st Century' where visitors from the world of Astronomy, Civil Engineering, Pharmaceutical work and Business tried to convince the audience in five minutes that they had the best job!

Christmas Concert Charity Donation

The Park Community School Music Department donated £500 of the money raised from the School Christmas Concert to MacMillan Cancer Support. 

Student’s were pleased to meet MacMillan Charity representatives Tony and Jane Hare who explained to the students, how MacMillan help cancer sufferers and their families. 

Devon Indoor Athletics Result

On Thursday 27th February the Park School Achieved Bronze Medal in the Devon u13s Indoor Athletics  competition. They beat 15 other schools from all over the county to secure the medal. All the athletes had to show skill and stamina across a range of track and field based activities including, shot put, long jump, triple jump, vertical jump, and speed bounce. They also had to complete races other varying distances and compete in teams for the relays.

Fundraising For Go North Devon

Students from Drake and Chichester House presented a cheque in February to a representative from Go North Devon Mobility Centre.for £305.

Drake House raised £153 and Chichester House raised £152.

The money was raised through cakes sales, guess the teddy's name, guess the number of sweets in a jar and weekly collections.

 

North Devon Performing Arts Festival

Congratulations to Year 11 student Megan Bousted for coming first in eight of her nine singing classes and second in the ninth.  Megan also won best under 18 duet of the competition and most promising under 18 singer.  A great achievement.

Under 13s Indoor Athletics Team Under 13's Indoor Athletics Team

Well done to the under 13s Indoor Athletics team who have recently qualified to go through to the county championships in Plymouth on Thursday 27th February 2014. All the pupils took part in a multidiscipline event including track and field based activities; they displayed a fantastic team spirit and athletic skill to see off their competitors from the other North Devon Schools.  

South West Schools Climbing Competition

Huge congratulations to the team of six climbers (Year 11 students Tommy Tanner and Callum Platt, Year 9 students Jack Tanner, Finn Ivers and Will Jenkins and Year 8 student Kate Maddocks) who represented the school in the South West Schools Climbing competition at Exeter on the 26th January 2014. Park climbers were up against ten other schools in the competition and secured a third position. A Fantastic effort by all - Well Done!

After winning the South West Trampolining competition in October 2013, the Park School Trampolining team competed in the Southern England finals at Hayes, Kent on the 25th January, 2014. 

They came 4th in the U13 Novice. Congratulations girls, for becoming the fourth best schools team in Southern England!

Mini-computers put school ‘to the forefront’

Students at The Park Community School have received a number of free Raspberry Pi computers from the joint project led by Google and the OCR Exam Board to help with their studies.

The Raspberry Pi is a small credit card sized computer that has been developed by a British manufacturer in order to revitalise programming in the UK.

The computer is a low cost (£25) circuit board that allows students to download an operating system and learn to code with programs called ‘Scratch’...

Newport win Yr 6 Sports Hall Athletics

Newport Primary School retained their title as winners of the Park School's Year 6 Sports Hall Athletics competition in the most keenly contested event for many years.  The athletes competed over five activities - two runs; a throw and two jumping activities - before the finale of relay races.

In a thrilling match the team were beaten 4-3 by Pilton after extra time. They were very unlucky. Leading 3-2 and looking the better side Pilton equalised in the final 2 mins after being awarded a very harsh free kick.

Free Book Buzz Books

This is 7A with their free Book Buzz books. Bookbuzz is a reading programme from Booktrust, which supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure, independent choice and develop a whole school reading culture. Participating schools give their students the opportunity to choose their own book to keep from a list of 17 titles suitable for 11-year-olds.  They are selected by a panel of experts.

Over 350 primary school runners braved a combination of strong winds, sunshine and a hail storm as they participated in Park School’s cross-country event for years 5 and 6.  Despite the weather and testing underfoot conditions the runners’ enthusiasm and commitment were plain to see as was their determination.  This resulted in all four races being tightly contested with little to separate the top ten finishers in each race.

Another successful ‘Options at 16+’ evening took place last Monday evening for Parents/Carers and Year 11 students. Over 300 people attended to look at the options that are available for Year 11 when they leave school.

Great Achievement For Adam In Italy

Year 8 student Adam Tobin was selected to represent Great Britain in the Men's Artistic Gymnastics Autumn Cup held in Seveso, Italy on the 26th October 2013.

Adam was in a team of four comprising two sixteen year olds and a fourteen year old.  This was Adam's first international competition, competing against gymnasts from, Italy (A and B team), France, Switzerland and Jordan.

The GB team took the Gold medal position, with individual medals going to the British team.

On Wednesday 16th October Park Community School entered the Devon Autumn Ability Games which was held at Tarka Tennis. The day gave pupils the opportunity to try many different sports and spend time with pupils from many different schools from around the county. Year 4 Boys Top 3 Primary Schools Year 3/4 Cross Country

The Park Community School’s annual calendar of sport for primary schools started with cross country runs for years 3 and 4 pupils.  Glorious sunny weather and a dry course ensured fast run races with each of the four events being closely fought out at the finish.  Almost 400 pupils took part and completed the courses, spurred on by a very large number of supporting parents.

Surf Lifesaving Competition Success

Year 11 student Summer Whiteley, has just returned from competing for the junior U19 GB surf lifesaving team in Italy.   An amazing performance from all the team resulted in GB finishing 5 overall with GB finishing 1st in the beach/ sea events. Park Has Life-Saving Cardiac Equipment

Eight of Park Schools First Aid trained staff attended a St Johns Ambulance Defibrillator Training Course today.  

The School wanted to extend the skills of our First Aiders so that in the situation where a student, staff member or visitor at the school had a sudden cardiac arrest our staff had the confidence and knowledge to use the Schools on site mobile defibrillator machine.
